Whee/Waah!

Roads and Boats geekage!

This is still about solitaire on the Small World S33 map.

Good: In a second attempt, I scored 350, to beat my previous score of 290!

Better: I have the high score for that map on the server, also beating the previous record of 340!

D'oh!: I'm still a long ways from matching the real record of 510 on Splotter's site.

Hmmm. A paradigm shift is required: my current approach doesn't have room in it for more than another 10 points at most. Two mines will be needed, which doesn't leave room for the wagon factory, which makes things much harder.

It's a very good puzzle (as solitaire) or game (with 2-4 players), although it's somewhat fiddly for some people's tastes. There is a strategic-planning level, but the devil is in the details: implementing any plan demands a lot of very low-level management. Played as a competitive game, it's even rougher, because at some point, your opponent(s) will begin to interfere with your plan and you with theirs! It has a very neat mechanism for changing order of play, which is usually critical when players interact.

The site I'm playing on has the rules, and you can step through a replay of a game to see how it works in practice.
