Phew!

When the garage calls to say that both front wheel bearings need to be replaced, to the tune of $640 plus tax, and that it's not covered under the powertrain warranty, I'm very happy to find that they are mistaken, and it is indeed covered for my 2009 Mazda. I got them to check again, and they came around to my way of thinking.

Yikes! And then yay!

So is this related to the humming noise?

I have noticed the same humming noise in my 2003 Mustang and my mechanic tells me it very likely is a wheel bearing, although I have not had it checked yet. I do think your car is rather 'young' to be having this problem. Wheelbearings do not usually fail that soon.

Hooray for (eventually) having a safe car and double hooray for not having to pay for it!

Glad all is well. This seems like the best possible outcome of a lame-face situation.
