It seems that what they are saying is: if you care about being good at something you have to practice, and get better. Basic, yes, but no harm in saying it again.

I took a much different message from the article:
if you care about being good at something, you have to go through being bad at it for a while, and have confidence in yourself that you will be able to get past that.

And I don't think this is a basic message. I think the prevailing teaching paradigm has moved away from the idea that people are generally bad at stuff until they practice and moved to an a praise for success mode, which kinda sabotages the desire to try again. Therefore, this article is an excellent message that needs getting out there.
