It's certainly an interesting connection; Janice Moore mentions the possible link with this Biblical passage in Parasites and the Behavior of Animals (Oxford University Press US, 2002, p. 21). Of note is the doubtful translation of the Hebrew word which is often given as "poisonous" but which may be more accurately rendered as "fiery", suggesting the burning sensation the parasite causes.
