Ludo and bulk order updates

Ludo Outaouais is going well: lots of fun, lots of opportunity to practice my French (which I value these days), and hey... the door prizes there are teh awsum! Admission: $30. Door prize: Red Dragon Inn 2 (which is playable independent of Red Dragon Inn 1), sticker price at Fandom II $33. I've played quite a few games including a newly-designed prototype (Speculation, a decent stock market-themed game for which the designer was still soliciting suggestions) and a good slice of a Serious Wargame (Storm over Stalingrad), in which I held my own... when we had to pack up for the night, it was pretty much as nail-bitingly close as it was in history. My Russians were backed up to the river and just barely hanging on to control of most of the shore against superior German firepower and support, having fallen back through most of the city. Reinforcements were on the way, but would there be anything to reinforce? Nice tension in the game, and easy to pick up by wargame standards, but perhaps not by eurogame standards. [livejournal.com profile] dagibbs, I think you would like this one if you could find willing victims. I think it may be a next step up from Twilight Struggle.

The bulk order is now so close to $2000 that I can be pretty assured that it will get there, even if I have to do the driving. Accordingly, here are people's new totals and order status information!

I'm a bit confused by the "on order" entries - does it mean I don't pay you right away?

For tome of corruption... I'm as confused as you are. A wild guess would be that games workshop is worried it's competition for its own fluff material?

The story I got from Fandom -- for whatever it's worth -- is that the WFRP stuff was selling well. Then GW printed the 40K version, and promptly sold the entire print run in under two weeks. (Not knowing the size of the print run, one can't judge how good this was; I get the impression it was not a particularly small run.)

Regardless, GW's reaction was to acknowledge that their roleplaying line was an "amazing success", and shut the entire division down. They will, however, be keeping their paperback division because it's a "continuing and amazing success." The guys at Fandom therefore profess that for a product to be kept by GW, it has to require at least two superlative adjectives for the company to describe it.

(Apparently, RPG books aren't as profitable as lead or paperbacks and GW had to cut costs.)

The good news is that Fantasy Flight Games has supposedly picked up the license for some or all of the line. The bad news is that FFG has more products than it knows how to print.

All this supposedly happened fairly recently, so it's possible the distributors have copies, so we'll see if they show up.

I've no confirmation on any of this, so I may be having my leg pulled, but it's just crazy enough to sound true.

I don't try to understand...

[identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
It means that it's not yet in the box, so:
a) you don't pay for it until it shows up, and
b) you undertake to pay for it if it shows up at the last moment.

If it shows up before the last moment, you'll get pricing info and the opportunity to cancel.

If you want to adjust b), give me a fixed maximum cost in advance, which may be $0.

I don't try to figure GDW out...

when you say it's not in the box you mean... if it shows up later, is it still discounted?

[identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
If it shows up by the 7th of November, yes. If it doesn't show up by then, you're under no obligation to buy it if it shows up, although I can have them contact me if you like.
