Symbols matter when they're not meant to be symbols, but are foreshadowing of things to come. It's a good start, but I'm not ready or willing to get on the bandwagon, yet.

Not only then. They matter in the moment, because they affect people. A leader's role is not only to do things, but to inspire, direct and enable others to do more than any one person can.
