It was a small group at aikido today: just 5 of us.

5-dan: qty 1 (Sensei D.)
4-dan: qty 2 (Senseis W. and L.)
1-kyu: qty 1 (M.L.)
2-kyu: qty 1 (me)

It's a great way to learn, but good heavens, the energy was intense. I don't often get to be the kohai for the class these days. Also, I haven't been that winded in quite a while!

*did mild internet search*

you were the trainee there, so 2-kyu is lower than 1-kyu?

3rd Kyu
2nd Kyu
1st Kyu
1st Dan
2nd Dan
3rd Dan
4th Dan
5th Dan

Yes, basic japanese ranking -- happens in many places, I'm familiar with it from Judo and Go.

Rankings count upwards in dans from 1, and downwards in kyus from 1.

Wow, nice. That reminds me of when I had a Tai Chi class, and it was just me, 2 Sihings (instructors) and our Sifu (Master). I felt way outclassed, but was really grateful for the intensity and insight.
