i dont think many people have gotten seriously hurt, because I dont think they would allow it to stay on TV if it were possible to really kill yourself easily. they are very professional about it.
Are you sure? You know why so many people watch Nascar, right?
I meant, how many people are injured in practice? By the time the survivors get to the competition, they've got their stunts pretty polished. (Never mind the idiots who try to imitate the pros!)
Yes but after the last death to happen in nascar, they completely changed regulation and enforced the use of neck braces so that the rear-end crash wouldnt be crippling/fatal anymore.
Also, idiots are idiots, and if you dont have the training to do what they do, you get what you deserve if you try something that foolish.
Most people that are involved In that sport have some kind of semi-serious injury(like a compound fracture), but they go through rigorous training regimes so that their bodies come out like martial artists and in particular MMA fighters. It's not like these guys just get on a bike and say "I'm going to do a double backflip today."
On the first two bits, fair enough. Still a lot of people watch Nascar to see the crashes; the safety stuff makes it "okay", much as the penalties make it "okay" for a lot of (in many cases the same) people to enjoy watching the fights in hockey.
On the last... I'll buy that like any athletes, they condition their bodies; what makes you single out MMA folks? I would expect gymnasts, skaters (i.e. figure skaters), and dancers to be better comparisons.
because of the way they train, their bones become stronger as well due to constant impact. just landing a bike repeatedly will build up bone mass. I wish I could find that discovery show about how MMA fighters train so their bodies can take breaking many blocks of ice or concrete. they even measured the forces that were involved, and equated them to car accidents.
