...and my RoboRally board isn't quite finished yet. (Every year, I create a new board for the CanGames Convention.) No playtest this year... I just have to hope that my instincts and solitairing are good enough!
Stuff I've used for building the board:
Stuff I've used for building the board:
- 3M Super 77 Spray Glue: Strong stuff. Do not use indoors, or at least near anything that you can't tolerate getting tacky. Do not use on windy days if you can possibly avoid it. (I couldn't, because I'm behind schedule, and so I had a very aggravating Saturday morning.)
- Foamboard: Awesome stuff. I use 3/16" Black-on-Black foamboard, because black hides all kinds of little mistakes. One problem: store flat whenever possible, because it will warp over time if it's under a bending load, even self-weight from resting at an angle against a wall.
- Foamboard Cutter: Not a tool for the faint-hearted. With a sharp blade, this cutter makes very smooth 45-degree cuts, but the cut has to be made in a single "pass," and it's hard to use a straightedge as a guide. Line it up carefully, sight along the line, and Give 'er! With some practice, I've got my cuts coming consistently within a millimeter of target.
- Glue Gun: Every crafter's friend, and, along with the soldering iron, the cause of many callussed fingertips. When just applied, the glue is about as hot as candle wax: uncomfortably hot, but not second-degree-burn inducing, unless you find a way to bathe in it. The glue sets quickly, but not instantly, and impatient people working to a deadline (moi?) need to remind themselves of this on occasion.
