It's been done before.
I came across
This Is the Title of This Story, Which Is Also Found Several Times in the Story Itself
when I was in high school. My favourite sentence in it is the 2nd sentence in paragraph 8 (a sentence that appears only once in the entire story!).
At the time, my OAC chem teacher gave us bonus marks for including jokes in our lab reports. So I was inspired to make my entire lab report self-referential, much as that news article above, but with the actual content. I never did get it back.

, which was a major early influence for me.
