Yes, the Carleton U Strategy Club is doing a bulk order again! Standard drill... 20% off when we get over $1K, 25% at $2K. Pickup date is the first Friday in November, I believe. Reply with requests!

Of note:

Betrayal at House on the Hill reprint is expected to arrive Friday.

Dominion: Prosperity was supposed to come out last month; your guess is as good as anyone's when it'll actually get there, but you can order on spec.

Do you own any of Container, Endeavor, or Le Havre?

Put me down for any of that three that you don't own.

Some would say that hope is a good thing, and some would say it was the worst curse that came out of Pandora's box.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

OK, I'll put all 4 of these on the order now, and if I decide that I want them myself, I'll let you know and we can add a second copy or you can add something else!

Endeavor was $49 on the shelf; Le Havre was $79 this spring; Container was $55 this spring.

If you had them now, I'd try to play them before making an order. But, since you don't have them -- I'll take them all. You're also, of course, welcome to order them. :)

I'll put in an order for House of Flail for both Dominion and Prosperity.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Dominion basic and Prosperity only? Can I tempt you with Intrigue, Seaside, and/or Alchemy?

From: [identity profile] frenchzie.livejournal.com

Dominion: can they get the French (or a bilingual) version? I'm getting the basic version for sure but I'll get back to you about the expansions...

Red Dragon Inn: basic; French (or bilingual) version preferred.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Peu probable on the French versions, but we'll try!

Both games are pretty much impossible to do in bilingual versions because of the heavy card text; there just isn't room.

From: [identity profile] frenchzie.livejournal.com

Je sais que ce n'est pas nécessairement les mêmes distributeurs, mais ceux-ci sont disponibles en français au Valet d'coeur... Si c'était possible d'avoir accès aux versions françaises, ce serait ma préférence... :)

Anyways, and since there are already few English games owned in the gaming circle, I guess there's no requirement for an other one! ;)

FIL10202 Dominion : L'intrigue
FIL10232 Dominion : Rivage
FIL10252 Dominion : Alchimie

From: [identity profile] frenchzie.livejournal.com

Dominion (de base) : de préférence en français, sinon en anglais.
Extensions : seulement si elles sont en français...
Alchimie : non, je n'ai pas encore joué.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Compris!

Ooh... Betrayal at House on the Hill

Also, Josh is looking to get Nobilis 3rd Ed. (EOS Press) which is being released this month - if it comes in

Also, could I get a price/availability check on:
claustrophobia
magical athlete
to court the king
chicago express
The Speicherstadt
gosu
diamonds club

I will probably end up buying all except claustrophobia.

You made my night!

Re: W00T!!!

*grins* I saw Magical Athlete at $23; I didn't see the others there last week. Should I put all but Claustrophobia on the order, and you can cancel one or two if need be?

I have played Chicago Express, and found it fun but quite cutthroat!

Re: W00T!!!

Good idea! Let's go with that.

You make it sound like being cutthroat is bad in a game??

Excellent!

Well, you know me... I hate to do anything that might be detrimental to my friends!

Wg007 here, too lazy to log in

So... I'm a little n00b and have a game collection of 1 game (Thebes). I would love to expand my horizons but don't really know where to start (despite having played over 100 games, I don't know where to start, ugh). Dominion is not quite my taste (although I am expecting a barrage of rotten tomatoes my way from this crowd, having said that). Any suggestions?

Also, are there any games that are not included in the bulk order, or do I get my pick from anything BGG would recognize? (Thinking of things like Battle Line, Coda, Blue Moon City, Ticket to Ride, Dixit, Collesseum, Finca, Ingenious, Pandemic, Once Upon a Time... they seem to me to not be typical gamer fare or big fan favorites, but they are games nonetheless)

Suggestions welcome and I will think on it a bit more. Hopefully I can order a game or two though, get my collection rolling. :)

Re: Wg007 here, too lazy to log in

Pretty much every game you've mentioned is fair "game", and most of it, I've seen on the shelf at one time or another. Basically, you can get whatever Fandom II has in stock or can get in through their distributors in time for the order. RPG books, boardgames, miniatures, dice, paints, pewter figurines, Cthulhu plushies...

In building a game collection, I suggest that you think about who you're likely to game with. If [livejournal.com profile] mnv_iii is your target audience, buy stuff he doesn't already have. If you're trying to introduce new folks to gaming, aim lighter and find games that work with a wide range of player counts, and go for tried and true classics. Unless you really want to become a specialist, shoot for variety: 6 worker-placement games (Caylus, Stone Age, Agricola, Tribune, etc.) is probably not a good starting set.

Is there some game aspect you particularly like? A theme, a mechanic, a "feel"?

There is a glut of games out there, so pretty much none of us has time or budget to get all the good stuff. I will consider games with a BGG rating over 6, and have found some quite out-of-the-way games that have gone over very well. I'm often surprised by what "flies"; typically, out of a half-dozen games, one or two will be excellent, and one or two may not hit the table again for a year after a first play.

Not making that mistake again. If I don't log in, I don't get the notifications when you reply. :(

Thanks muchly for the response, very insightful and helpful!!! I'll have to give some thought as to what games that I like are in my price range and have the most flexibility...

For now though, I think it's safe to add BattleLine to the order. I saw it at Fandom for a good price and it is one that I quite like. I'll try and pick one or two more to add soon- don't think I can quite afford to beef up my collection too much yet, but this is a great opportunity to at least start.

Thanks soooooooooo much for the comment, you're great, it gave me a lot of stuff to think about. :)

Re: Wg007 here, too lazy to log in

*grin* I figured that was it.

I'll add BattleLine in for ya!

Also, no trouble at all on the advice... I understand the difficulty!

Finally, happy Thanksgiving!
