Harbingers?

Argentina and Iceland have shown that economies don't have to work the way Big Capital tells us they do. They shrugged off their financial burdens, and returned to the real source of wealth: their people. Will the rest of the world follow suit, and if so, how and when?

While the economy interests me, I don't pretend to understand it nor do I follow the news/world events at all. So my comment will be a vapid one but important nonetheless: GO ICELAND!!!!!! WOOHOO ICELANDERS!!!! YEA. :D

"Understanding" the economy is something people only pretend to do, really. Everybody's guessing, although some guesses are kind of semi-educated.

I have a lot of sympathy for Iceland, as well I should since the nation was founded by a guy from the same village I came from. But the fact remains that we see a lot new workers from Iceland coming to Norway these days. And not just men sending money home, as with people from some countries. No, whole families are packing their things and leaving the country, as they don't expect there will be work for them in many, many years - if ever.

Prophecies are often self-fulfilling, I find... I hope that the balance of those who leave and those who stay works out for all concerned. There is undoubtedly a great deal of uncertainty in Iceland, and it's not surprising that some are jumping ship.
