Phew!

When the garage calls to say that both front wheel bearings need to be replaced, to the tune of $640 plus tax, and that it's not covered under the powertrain warranty, I'm very happy to find that they are mistaken, and it is indeed covered for my 2009 Mazda. I got them to check again, and they came around to my way of thinking.

I have noticed the same humming noise in my 2003 Mustang and my mechanic tells me it very likely is a wheel bearing, although I have not had it checked yet. I do think your car is rather 'young' to be having this problem. Wheelbearings do not usually fail that soon.

*nods* That was the consensus of the folks I talked to at work, too. Hopefully, the new set will last better!

Are you planning on getting yours replaced?

Yes, if it is necessary, although mine are no longer covered by a warranty.

I guess that's one of the downsides of a car getting on in years... the maintenance bills go up until they reach the value of the car.
