I've been hella busy at work lately, and it's showing not a lot of signs of easing up in the next couple of weeks. LJ posting and commenting has thus taken a back seat to RF troubleshooting, lab equipment organizing and purchasing, product integration, standards test planning, digital architecture, et cetera, et cetera.

It's March. March always feels like this, I think. Well, except for the minus 40 windchills, that's more January. But March is hard: things get busy, but there isn't even a promise of summer yet. At least Mercury will go direct tonight: I don't know how much recent weirdness it's been responsible for in my life, but something's sure been making communication more difficult.

21 work days until my vacation!!!

BTW... are Saturdays or Sundays usually more convient for socializing with you and SD?

I'm already looking forward to going down to the Outer Banks, and that's at the end of June.

This Sat. is not good for her: last day of driving classes. In general, I try to do thesis work (oh yeah, that thing!) on Saturdays during the day, and I usually go to Sunday 11:30 Mass, so Saturday evenings and Sundays from about 1 PM onward are best.

This Sat's all booked for me anyway. I'm booked into an appointment with my torturer Coolhandsgirl and I think we may be doing something with Ziggy in the evening. I was more curious about in general and concerning my eventual b'day party in April.

Do you have any normal board games? Or ones that don't require too many special bits, german translation, or instructions that require more than 5 minutes to learn?

Ah; sounds good!

Normal? What is this Normal? I know no Normal!

Well, there's Wits and Wagers, which has gone over well with various crowds. Also, assorted card games can come out. What did you have in mind?

I don't have anything in mind. I'm just brainstorming and poking around right now. I need to sit down with Ziggy before I can do some serious planning since she volunteered her place for my party.

We'll also probably be going to the creepy exhibit sometime in the near future and I know you were interested in that.

BTW... hidden in the NAC is a interesting photograph display. The artist did self-portraits of himself as his ancestors. Very interesting photos. We found them by accident.

*nod* 'k!

I know the NAC has a small gallery space where they show small collections, competitions, etc. in a hallway going Westish from the main atrium to a stairway and door onto Elgin; is that the place?

From: [identity profile] m-danson.livejournal.com

I'm not sure.

Go up the main ramp by the big windows to the glass tower thing then turn right to go up the stairs to the next floor. Turn left and go across a walkway with the glass tower on your left towards a room that is labelled photography. The first display is a video/photo exhibit of a simulation of someone trying to escape from some facility and drowning in a river. Go past that into the main room and those photos are on your right. BTW, I absolutely love the big photo immediately in front of you when you enter the room. It's called bloodless, I believe it is a photo of a piece of performance art.

Whups, wrong building, you're in the NAG, not NAC! *teleports* I'm with you now.

I'll have to go see it sometime.

From: [identity profile] m-danson.livejournal.com

Ooops. My mistake. Yeah. NAG. Were you thinking about the little gallery by Chateau Laurier?

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Nope, I was thinking of a hallway in the NAC in which art exhibits are sometimes displayed.

The one beside the Ottawa Court Chateau Laurier is the National Museum of Contemporary Photography, I think.

Ottawa Court *laugh*

There are so many galleries in Ottawa. I've been going to the ones I find but I haven't found them all or gone to them all yet. The Portrait gallery is on my vacation list.

You are correct, the photography museum is next to the Chateau Laurier. According to my cousin (who works at the NAGallery) it is currently closed and some of the exhibits are taking up space at the gallery.

It used to be the railway station where they would load cargo from the canal onto rail cars.

Cool; I've never been to the NMCP, and I didn't know the building was that old.

Wow... Ottawa was a sho'nuf port at one point!
