The Carleton U. Strategy Club will be doing its semi-annual bulk order this month!

Anything Fandom II has in stock or can obtain by the pick-up date is fair game. We will get a 20% discount if the order is between $1000 and $2000, and 25% if it's over $2000. Historically, we have had little trouble in reaching the $2K mark.

To add something to the order, contact me and tell me what you want to add. I will get back to you when it's put on reserve for us (at which time I'll also tell you the price), or when it's put on order if they don't have it in stock.

The pick-up date is November 7th, and so you should place your orders with me at least 2 weeks before that if possible (i.e., by the 24th of October). I will want to have your money by the 31st of October. There is a last-minute option in which you meet us at Fandom II on the evening of the pick-up date and arrange with me to add things they have in stock at that moment.

When I give pricing info, I'll generally go with the 20% discount after-tax cost, until we reach $2000. If you pay more than the eventual price of your stuff, I'll refund you the difference, of course.

You can get your stuff from me by arrangement after the 7th of November!

I'll be adding more to this list

The Heroes rulebook (the one you were recommending when you were talking about wanting to run a game)
Imperial
Bananagrams
Princes of Florence
Tsuro
A Touch of Evil, the Supernatural Game
*sobs* that Betrayal is probably out of print still

Re: I'll be adding more to this list

Excellent!

Imperial was stickered at $59 in the spring; we'll see if they still have it.
I haven't seen Bananananananagrams there, but I'll put it on order, along with one for myself.
I haven't seen Princes of Florence for a while, but since I already have it, I don't look hard.
Tsuro comes and goes; ordering it now has a good chance of getting it in in time.
I haven't heard of A Touch of Evil.
Betrayal is sadly hard to find, but I'll ask them to do what they can.

My husband and I recently played Arkham Horror at a friend's place... same general idea, and it was most awesome.

Re: I'll be adding more to this list

It was the new one we played... it hurts my brain that there are expansions for it. We could easily envision playing the game once a week and not having anything close to the same game twice.

Re: I'll be adding more to this list

Dunwich expands the playing area.
Curse of the Pharoah and King in Yellow are mostly card expansions.
All the expansions are deisnged to make sure that the game no longer fits in it's box.

Re: I'll be adding more to this list

I enjoy it, but it is a bit long. Also I have a house rule I want to try as a variation but I need to organize a couple of guinea pigs. I have the base game and the King in Yellow expansion - I haven't played with the King in Yellow sep rules yet (just the add-ins).

In the current rules, one can strategize aiming to fight the Old One - rather than ending the game before it awakens - in fact often this is how Shonokin and I and co have won because since you know what you are fighting you can run around the board being as prepared as possible. It depends - Azathoth and Cthulhu are hard to fight whereas MiGo is fairly easy.

I want to try a variation in which the doom track is set higher and "which" old one is not known until it awakens. It would change other minor aspects of game play (e.g. the special effects during the rise of the old one would not be in play) but I think it could work well.

Yes, it looked very similar. But with 19th century monsters! How cool is that?

I'm honestly tired of dealing with Fandom in person. Something about 50% of the staff being unrepentant, unmitigated assholes about anything that isn't old-school 3-hours-for-a-turn hand-painted-or-you-lose-3.64%-stats-and-there-is-a-chart-for-that miniatures wargaming.

That being said, I'll happily toss in if you deal with the staff and I just have to give you money.

I want:

5 copies (one-two-three-four-five) of "Savage Worlds Explorers Edition". Pinnacle Entertainment Group, softcover, 160 pages, should be $9.99 each.

1 copy "Pirates Of The Spanish Main" Hardcover. Pinnacle Entertainment.

1 copy "The Savage World Of Solomon Kane" Hardcover. Pinnacle Entertainment.

1 copy "Necropolis 2350" Hardcover. Triple Ace Games, and it won't be on sale until Oct 20th, but should be preorderable now.

1 copy "Slipstream" Hardcover, Pinnacle Entertainment.
1 copy "50 Fathoms", Pinnacle Entertainment - may no longer be in print.
1 copy "Sundered Skies" Hardcover. Triple Ace Games, available now.

This is several hundred dollars worth of stuff. I am completely, totally, 100% unwilling to waste my time talking to Fandom II staff. Either they can order it and I will give you money, or they can not order it and I will not give you money. Can you hook me up?

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

That is the plan, yes. I will add this to my list and hook you up as info comes back.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Okay, our story so far:

Savage Worlds: 2 of 5 set aside at $10 each, others on order. ($20 => $16.80)
Pirates: $40 => $33.60
Solomon Kane: $46 => $38.64
Necropolis: F. has never heard of the company, but they're looking into it.
Slipstream: on order.
50 Fathoms: out of print, improbable.
Sundered Skies: if you meant Pinnacle Entertainment, it's in the box at $32 => $26.88; let me know!

Triple Ace is a UK company that split from Pinnacle. They took Necropolis and Sundered Skies when they left - I thought the SS book that's currently out was under their imprint, not the Pinnacle one. And yes, that's the one I want.

Sounds good. THanks.

From: [identity profile] jagash.livejournal.com

If there is difficulty in getting Necropolis locally, Noble Knight games does have a copy as well.

I was hoping to get a copy of Settlers of Catan, and maybe one or possibly two other games. Obviously if we don't hit the $1000 mark then I'll wait!

I have two problems though, so it depends upon how nice you want to be :) First, I do have a chequebook with me but it will take about 3 weeks to reach you. This means that you may have to wait a bit before receiving the money as I cannot even guarantee that timing.

The other part is getting the stuff to me. Chances are good that by October 24th we should know if the postal service is doing free delivery to us, in which case you would have to box them up, write up an address, and drop it off at a local outlet of Canada Post (Billings?). If they don't offer that service then I won't bother at all. Still, it isn't exactly straight-forward for you, so what do you think?

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

There should be little difficulty in making the $1000 mark... just what people have asked me about already is more than half of that.

I'm fine with covering for you while waiting for a cheque.

I think that under the circumstances, they'll probably be fine with us putting things aside on the assumption that the postal thing will work out, and if not, they will accept the cancellation.

So... Settlers, and what else?

From: [identity profile] ziggy-b.livejournal.com

Sweet! How about San Juan and/or Puerto Rico? Both as playability and availability?

Thanks!

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Puerto Rico is a top-notch classic; strong buy!

San Juan is a lighter game with more luck involved and a similar feel. Race for the Galaxy is, in my opinion, a better take on the same idea.

Both are "building" games in which the players don't get in each other's way directly, although PR in particular has a couple of major mechanisms by which players can make each other's lives somewhat harder.

From: [identity profile] ziggy-b.livejournal.com

Please add a copy of 'Puerto Rico' and one of 'Race for the Galaxy' to my list (so 3 games in total). Canada Post offers free shipping from you to me starting 20 October so that works out really well.

I might have a couple more games to add if my coworker likes playing the Settlers card game that I brought with me. I will let you know in the next day (so by Tuesday evening).

Also, please provide me with the amount that I should send on a cheque. If you think that it is almost guaranteed to be 25% and are okay with spotting me the difference in money on the off chance that it doesn't get to $2k then give me that price, otherwise I am quite happy to pay the 20% price and make you take me for a cuppa tea and a chat when I return (a very fair suggestion under the circumstances! :)

When I get confirmation of the costs (once I have confirmed my coworker's intent and the numbers from you) then I will send you a cheque. If it gets posted on 15 Oct then it should be close to making the 7 Nov deadline if we're lucky (although I have heard that the mail is delayed and will possibly take up to 6 weeks if we're unlucky).

I'm looking forward to these! Thanks for being a 'good sport' about it :)

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Okay, I'll add them to the list, and get back to you when I get pricing info. Hopefully, by then, we'll be at $2000 so there won't be any complication on that front; even so, I think tea and chat on your return sound like an excellent idea!

And hey, if we can support you folks over there by providing entertainment, all the better, right?

From: [identity profile] ziggy-b.livejournal.com

People provide entertainment in different ways (some by acting like idiots and getting laughed at) but all forms of entertainment are appreciated! We'll have to do tea and chat no matter what, but I wanted to provide you with the option of me potentially overpaying you for a time if it makes you more comfortable. I am okay with it, plus you are doing me a huge favour so this is the least I can do for you :)

I look forward to receiving these! I played the Settlers card game tonight and it took us about 3 hours for our first game (loads of instruction-reading involved) but it was fun and will hopefully be repeated in future. We don't have loads of spare time but a card game should be about the perfect length of time once we have the details down pat.

Re: If you get any of the discounts... please order...

Conan: $36 => $30.24 @ 20%
Stygia: may not be released yet, but on order.
Call of Cthulhu: on order.

From: [identity profile] jagash.livejournal.com

Is it more efficient to tell you or write it on the list in the club?

From: [identity profile] jagash.livejournal.com

Additionally, what are the "Thou must have" boardgames which you would recommend? I currently only have Betrayal, Caylus, Carcassone with some expansions, Diplomacy and Murder City.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

That's a difficult question, best discussed in person sometime. Some folks use the BGG Top x as a checklist, but that doesn't suit everyone.

From: [identity profile] ironphoenix.livejournal.com

Err, sorry for not answering earlier; work was v. bizzy.

No. I guess you figured that out already, huh?

Want to meet for coffee or such early Monday afternoon?
