Baby State Graph

Because "someone" mentioned the idea and it got stuck in my head, I give you...

There's at least one obvious error, there:

The baby can get to "Messy" from *any* state, not just from asleep-after-feeding-since-last-Messy. You're missing lines from just about every other state into Messy.

*chuckle* Perhaps, but sometimes truth has to sacrificed for symmetry, right?

If that "someone" was me and Kerry that's not quite the same thing that we were talking about. We were talking about a decision tree to determine the best course of action, not a graph depicting the actual state of things.

Nope, that wasn't what led to this, but your idea's good too!

I think it's awesome.

Though John makes a good point... our flowchart always checked diaper first. Feeding babies often makes them messy, and fussy is often a sign of more messy.

Thanks!

"Fussy" in the graph above is existential fussiness, as distinct from the fussiness that accompanies "Hungry" or "Messy".

you also need something for "illness" and "random" and "growth spurt - whole new rule set needed."

Even in utero - jeesh

*grin* You're right, but I was only going for the normal operation cycle here. Error states are generally added on in later drafts, which I'll leave as an exercise ;)
