Fiction, from a screenwriter who does horror.

so good! Sort of a rip off of a Stephen King novella, maybe. Very similar to something published in his last book of short stories.

*nods* If you like this, you might try House of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Not sure I understand all the comparisons to HoL. Yes, it's a horror story about a house. To me, the parallels end there.

Both are about the horror of things not seen, it seems to me. They aren't identical by any means, but I suspect there is a good deal of overlap in the audiences who like them.

There's a part where he talks about this kid Drew/Andrew who ends up shooting a couple that unnerves me. Maybe because as I am reading that section, my crazy roommate is freaking out in his room and rambling to himself.

Ben needs to move. Badly.

*nods* It's kind of crafted to unnerve the reader even without such contextual "help".

And yes, yes he does.
